The story arc: the importance of the scene-by-scene breakdown in the writing process.

 

13:00  Lunch

The pub in the village The Kings Arms, does reasonably priced meals or sandwiches on Saturdays. On Sundays only meat meals are available, so if you are vegetarian or vegan you are advised to bring your own packed lunch to the Sunday workshop. Alternatively The Hope and Anchor a mile and a half away in Port Carlisle offers both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available, free, during the workshop

 

AFTERNOON SESSION (starts 14:00)

 

The continuation of development of the story and characters for the script, to a completed scene-by-scene breakdown.

 

Discussion and feedback. Participants choose which scene/s they wish to write for the script.

 

17:00  Workshop ends

 

DAY 2:

 

MORNING SESSION (starts 10am)

 

Recap of story and characters, scene-by-scene breakdown. Clarifications, questions, further thoughts on story and characters.

 

Each participant to write their three minutes worth of script for first draft of script:

This will be done with individual advice from Jim.

 

1pm Lunch. (Participants hand in their scripts for photocopying).

 

 

AFTERNOON SESSION (starts 14.00)

 

Read-through of first draft of script. Discussion.

Do the characters have continuity in the different scenes?

Does it feel like a unified script?

If any scenes feel they do  not fit with the others, what needs to be done to make them fit?

 

Following discussion: 2nd draft of scenes to be worked on: revised or polished.

 

Read-through of second draft of script.

 

Feedback and discussion

 

5pm: End of Day 2 and end of Workshop
