TIMETABLE

MORNING SESSION (starts 10:00am)

Welcome and Introduction

Presentation of first drafts

Participants will bring along the first draft of a six minute film or TV script they have already written.

There will be a limit to the number of main speaking parts (4 characters), with the addition of minor speaking roles. Each script will be read through and timed. After each scripts has been read aloud, the group will discuss it along the following lines:

bullet

Timing: did it fit in the six minute time slot? Does it need to be made longer/shorter?

bullet

Did people find it interesting enough to stay with it if it was a film or on TV?

bullet

How did the other writers react to the story?

bullet

After the ending, was the whole script felt to be satisfactory?

bullet

What suggestions would the group offer to the writer about their script (being aware of writers' sensitivities)?

13:00  Lunch

The pub in the village The Kings Arms, does reasonably priced  meals or sandwiches on Saturdays. On Sundays only meat meals are available, so if you are vegetarian or vegan you are advised to bring your own packed lunch to the Sunday workshop. Alternatively The Hope and Anchor at Port Carlisle offers both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available, free, during the workshop

AFTERNOON SESSION (starts 14:00)

Continuation of morning session, Then participants write and polish the second draft of their script.

Jim will see each writer individually to discuss their script with suggestions for the second draft.

16:45  Feedback session

17:00  Workshop ends

NB      The reason for deciding on a six minute script is threefold:

bullet

It allows all scripts to be properly read and then developed during the duration of the Workshop

bullet

It requires a great deal of artistic discipline to produce a short script, which tells a whole story in a brief form.

bullet

As an exercise, it helps teach control of the medium
